OM.606 Turbo engine into W123?

Um, the NA om602 revs to 5,500, so a 605 should rev past 5000 easy.

Incorrect. They can revv that high unloaded, under a load the governor cuts fuel before 5000rpm.

I know I am not as knowledgeable as you, so could you please explain to the unwashed masses what does a fuel pump governor has to do with the physical limitations of an engine?

Everything. The injection pump is a mechanical device, it has limitations that are impractical to completely eliminate. If you were to set the governor to limit the engine RPM to the maximum safe speed then the RPM it could revv to with a load would be limited. Since the engine can't revv higher than the loaded limit with a load, the potential of damaging the engine from excessive mechanical stress of overspeed is averted. This is known in the engineering world as, "a compromise".

Go revv a completely computerized engine and you'll find the loaded and unloaded maximum RPMs are the same.

Now, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume the car manufacturer choose those limits not due to the DNE engine specs but to satisfy their operational lifetime goals? If that is the case, those who are willing to sacrifice some longevity to in exchange of gains they seek would seek a different point in the graph. Case in point would be the VW AEB engine delivering 700+ HP.

After all, fuel delivery systems can be changed.

Back to the engine mountings:

I think the mountings from W126 300SDL would be a perfect fit for a 606 in W123, maybe the 300SE could fit too.
