FS: 334mm Brembo brake upgrade for W124, W201, R129

Viesti Kirjoittaja AMG Dave »

I've had these for sale for a few weeks in the USA, and forgot to post over here, in case anyone is interested. Shipping cost across the pond is fairly high but the weak US dollar help you a little...

What's included:
Used front Brembo aluminum calipers and used brake pads, for rotor size 334x32mm. The rear calipers are cast-iron Ate, for rotor size 300x22mm (same as on all SL600 models). The rear calipers include used Jurid pads. The front brakes require 17" wheels.

What's NOT included:
Rotors are NOT included. I can provide the part numbers so you can purchase them yourself at your local Mercedes dealership. I have part numbers for either factory cross-drilled rotors from the SL600 Silver Arrow edition, or solid (non-drilled) rotors. (It would cost more in shipping than the rotors are worth...!)

What cars they fit:
These brakes will fit all W124 400E, 500E, E420, and E500 E-class models; as well as R129 SL-class models from 1990 through 1998, including the 300SL, 500SL, 600SL, SL320, SL500, and SL600. This brake kit is the original equipment on 1999-2002 SL500 and SL600. The brakes can be made to fit all other 1986-1995 W124's (E-class) and 1984-1993 W201's (190E/190D) with additional modifications. The 300mm rear brakes will also fit W210 (1996-up E-class) and W202 (1994-up C-class) chassis, and are used on the C43 AMG and E55 AMG. The rear calipers in this auction actually came from a 1999 C43 AMG.

What else is out there:
Bekkers sells the identical front brake setup with new calipers, rotors, and pads for $1989 (USD)! They don't offer any larger rear brakes for the 124/201/129 chassis. The StopTech 355mm setup is fabulous but requires 18" wheels, and costs $2500 USD... and they also don't offer any rear upgrades. AFAIK, these are the only two commonly available "off the shelf" big-brake options for the W124, R129, and W201 chassis. Get them here for less than half the cost anywhere else! These are extremely difficult to locate used.

FAQ's:
The front brakes should be a complete bolt-on for the W124 V8 models and all SL models, other than removing the extra locating pin on the front hub as the 334mm rotors have one hole, not two. The front dust/splash shield may need to be bent slightly for clearance. The rear brakes will bolt on if your car already has the larger splash shield - if not, you need to cut your rear splash shield to fit the larger 300mm rotor. No spacers, brackets, or anything else is required to mount the calipers on front OR rear. If you are not sure what size brakes are currently on your car, and would like to know how much of a difference there would be, email me and I can tell you what the dimensions of your stock brakes are. This setup should provide incredible stopping power for ANY 124, 129, and 201 car and provide fade-free performance even under hard racetrack abuse. Most 124 diesels have 284x22 front brakes with 258x9 rear brakes, and would need the late style lower control arm (with the 'welded' ball joint) to make this setup work up front.

Pricing:
I'd like to sell these as a complete set. I'm asking $800 for front calipers and rear calipers. Used pads are also included. Separately I'd like $650 for the fronts only and $200 for the rears. Shipping cost to Finland for all four calipers would be approximately $80 USD for surface shipment (4-6 weeks) or nearly $200 USD (!!) for airmail (4-10 days).

Email me with questions (or PM, if you prefer). I'm having some issues with my website but will post links to photos soon, or I can email them if you'd like.

I just noticed a typo in the original post and edited it... I had pricing listed as including rotors, but they are not included (which was noted above, now highlighted in red. Sorry about that! It's not cost-effective to ship rotors overseas. They would cost almost $400 USD for new rotors, but shipping would be something like $150 USD to send them over via Parcel Post (4-6 week delivery) or about $350 USD for airmail (4-10 days)! I would assume you can buy the rotors locally at your Mercedes dealer for much less. If not, I can obtain new rotors and ship them, I had just assumed it wasn't cost effective. If you'd like a shipping quote for the calipers (and/or rotors, separately) send me an email with your country and postal code and I will check into that.

UPDATE... & reduced price!

Viesti Kirjoittaja AMG Dave »

The rear 300mm calipers are sold and on their way to Norway.

Front Brembo calipers are still available for $600 USD, shipping to Norway or Finland will be $50 USD. I can get another set of rear calipers if anyone wants them badly enough. 8)

Side note - apparently the cost of front rotors is quite high over there from Mercedes dealers. I can get them for $100 USD each plus about $75 USD shipping, which was actually cheaper than the dealer wanted in Norway! (They wanted ~$350 USD for two rotors.)

Hey Dave, how do two calipers compare to the weight of an OM603 injection pump? Still considering shipping my spare pump over to Finland, and would like to figure out the additional shipping costs.

Depending on the specific calipers in question and amount of packing, the weight is roughly 20-25lbs (10-12kg). Shipping via USPS economy/surface should be $25-$50, depending on the weight. For airmail, it's at least double. The bigger question is, how much would it cost for Myna to return the pump to the USA? I don't know how their postal rates compare.

Hi there, I check'd Finnish post officePostiprices. Slowest and cheapest I could find for 15 kg package would be about 60 € whitout tax. Just to give some idea
