Hi,
Built in a OM603 in my w201 2.3-16. Runs OK now.
I am hooking up the RPM gauge, but no luck, yet...
I have a w124 300TDT RPM gauge, which came out of the same donor car as the engine I used, but that gauge doesnt fit the w201 dash....
So I hooked up the 2.3-16 original gauge, but when the engine idles, the gauge points 5000 RPM, and when you increase the engine's RPMS, the gauge goes BACK, and points 1500 RPM´s...
So to all the OM603/2.3-16 guys: What RPM gauge to use, and how to hook it up?
RPM gauge diesel versus gasoline

Sorry, no 2.3/16 guy but definitely OM603 man!canonballman kirjoitti:Hi,

I think that that is s tricky answer... I would assume that you could use the rev counter from any W201 diesel, such as from a 190 D (OM601), 190 D 2.5 (OM602) or 190 D 2.5 Turbodiesel (OM602DE25) but I fear that the number ofcylinders of the engine is relevant to the rev counter and only 4 and 5-cylinder engines were ever factory fitted to the 190 D, unlike the 6-cylinder OM603 that you just fitted...
Perhaps somebody could confirm/dismiss this?

That wouldnt be a problem, the number of cilinders, I THINK.
Because the Om603 rev counter is hooked to a sensor which measures the speed of the starter gear of the flywheel.
It would be logical that a om601 and 602 share the same way of measuring. If thats so, 1 or 2 cilinders more wouldnt matter, because the signal is directly from the crank, and not, like gasoline cars, a (indirect)signal coming from the ignition pulses.
In that last case, you would have a problem.
I have this problem: It's difficult to find a w201 diesel with rev counter.
So i would hope it would be possible to use the 2.3-16 gauge. But more and more i think that isnt possible.

I have seen some W201 rev counters for sale on Ebay. You may well try it!canonballman kirjoitti: I have this problem: It's difficult to find a w201 diesel with rev counter.
Don't use the rev counter from a petrol/gas W201. The rev counter would not work properly in a diesel car.
