What must be done to the Mercedes automatic transmission in order for it to reliably handle ~400hp/800nm? The OM606 (turbo) is only available in the 1998+ W210 chassis here in the USA - those cars are still at least $10,000 USD in the used market.

A US-spec manifold cannot accept larger turbos, due to its complicated plumbing for a trap oxidizer. It's my understanding that a Holset HX 35 or similar turbo can be bolted up to the T3 mount on the stock Euro manifold. What is it about the OM606 engines that make them more desirable for maximum power when compared to the OM603 engines? Stronger reciprocating assembly?

I'm still learning here and so far I've seen on this site the the OM606 is the preferred engine to use for high power applications.
