Hello from Northern BC Canada
Hi all
I have heard that you Finnish folks can make a 300D Turbo to put out 400HP.
Maybe someday I will try that. Just sold my 1980 116 300SD, driving a slowly 240D, give me sometime I will get back into a Turbo again.
Thanks
How do I post pics of our cars here, I have big american boat!

Yes, from the OM603 and OM606 engines.
The easiest way might be some free space from internet and link from there. Something lik http://photobucket.comquesnelbc kirjoitti:How do I post pics of our cars here.

Re: Hello from Northern BC Canada
Well the latest results are 600 to even 700 hp. That's a shitload of horseys to be pulled from a 3-litre diesel!quesnelbc kirjoitti:Hi all

Naturally at that stage the engine is VERY seriously modded. But from the point of view of an ordinary car enthusiast, you CAN get over 200hp easy and over 300hp without opening the engine. A decent intercooler, bigger turbo, free flowing exhaust and modified diesel pump (with bigger elements) are the usual mods.
ps. what do we care about what Breshnev drove... Last time I checked I lived a long way from the Soviet Union... But did you know that both John Lennon and Idi Amin had a Mercedes W100? Those guys had style....

My engine have run over 100tkm for now without opening with a same engine and with over 400hp
Engine is OM603 with early mentioned changes. It is still in daily usage without any problems. As I've told, in daily usage... it is possible to get even more power from that engine but I would not like to take it out... even 550hp from OM603 and even 700hp from OM606... or even more

Re: Hello from Northern BC Canada
Do you change the delivery valves or the injectors, or are the 7mm pump elements the only change?Ylläpito kirjoitti: A decent intercooler, bigger turbo, free flowing exhaust and modified diesel pump (with bigger elements) are the usual mods.
Do you know the Bosch part numbers for the upgraded parts for an OM602?
Re: Hello from Northern BC Canada
Some engines have changed delivery valves too but it's a new modification, injectors are still original.Mitch H kirjoitti:Do you change the delivery valves or the injectors, or are the 7mm pump elements the only change?Ylläpito kirjoitti: A decent intercooler, bigger turbo, free flowing exhaust and modified diesel pump (with bigger elements) are the usual mods.

We'll just have to wait until the next summer and see what the boys will come up withMauri H. kirjoitti:Little over 500 hp is the best so far.

Took the C123 280 Twincam (carb, 156hp) for a spin today and couldn't help thinking that a 300hp diesel would do justice to this beautiful body... (No way I'm dieseling it though)

OM606
What is it about the OM606 engines that make them more desirable for maximum power when compared to the OM603 engines? Stronger reciprocating assembly?
I'm still learning here and so far I've seen on this site the the OM606 is the preferred engine to use for high power applications.
Thanks,
Matt

The OM606 has 4 valves per cylinder instead of 2. This allows it to flow much more air through the engine.

Thank you for your response. Is there a chart or document somewhere that describes the evolution of the OMxxx Mercedes diesels?
The OM606 (turbo) is only available in the 1998+ W210 chassis here in the USA - those cars are still at least $10,000 USD in the used market.
Thanks,
Matt

Thanks for the link.RatMan kirjoitti:Here is an OM606 that recently sold on eBay:
Holy crap - that was a good deal! That thing was barely broken in with only ~105k miles...
I just setup a couple of automated searches on eBay - so now I'll get daily updates on OM606 engines and any E300TD cars that might come up for sale.
I'm tempted to just buy a '98+ E300TD and start modifying it into a 'superturbo'...but they run $10,000 - $15,000 in the used market and it would be a shame to hack such a fine automobile.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi,
it is not the best solution to modify the E300TD. It has an electronic controlled IP and Transmission. All electronic functions are wired by CAN-Bus. I think it will be impossible to set up a good software with Mynä-Pump. Further the torque transformer is for 330Nm max. Or you have to use a transformer from a 270/320CDI or a big petrol machine...
If you want only W210 then you have to take a car till 03/97 without CAN-Bus. Then you will have less problems.
Best regards
Rodion

Hello, Rodion:
Thank you for the information. I didn't realize how much electronics (can-bus
) were involved with the OM606 in the '98+ E300TD.
W210's before '98 in the US are naturally aspirated.
I don't have my mind set on a W210 chassis, I just want to get an OM606 installed into a reliable and comfortable car (it doesn't even have to be a Mercedes...) that will stand up to ~450hp to start with. From there I may have to install the superturbo engine in a different vehicle.
I have even considered selling my Cummins and using the Jeep ZJ as the transplant patient for an OM606 superturbo engine.
Thanks,
Matt
