OM.606 Turbo engine into W123?
OM.606 Turbo engine into W123?
Hi guys...
Has anyone done this who can tell me how?
I'm hoping to get an OM.606 and fit to my 1985 W123 wagon. My problem is what Engine Mountings do I use? Are there any other things I need to know?
--I hear that some spacers are needed, 10mm on one side and 20mm the other, so engine 'sits' right. What engine-mount arms needed? those from 606, 603 or those from 617?
Or do I need to make some up from steel?--Hope not!
Looking for the easiest way, rather than the best way at the moment...
I hope to buy a Finnish tubular Exhaust Manifold and better turbo-maybe Holset HX30-40, 7.5mm elements, OM.603 Mechanical pump, maybe 300-350BHP reliable
Finns are the experts, so I ask you...
The car is Right-Hand Drive, a U.K. car if that makes any difference because of steering-box on 'wrong' side.....
Thanks!

Re: OM.606 Turbo engine into W123?
You wont need 7.5mm elements for 300-350hp, 7mm elements are just fine. HX30 is a little bit too small for those horsepowers, just buy hx40 superAlastair kirjoitti:I hope to buy a Finnish tubular Exhaust Manifold and better turbo-maybe Holset HX30-40, 7.5mm elements, OM.603 Mechanical pump, maybe 300-350BHP reliable

I know two w123 installed with om606 in Finland, here are the presentation videos:

The wagon is made by Valtonen Motorsport and here is link where you can find some pictures. There was Om617 with chargers, but it is nowadays replaced with om606.

Unfortunately these guys won't write anymore often here.
...and yep, BIG turbo and huge elements is the way to go

Thanks guys, Looks like I have Lots of reading to do, which I'll enjoy...!
Yup, had almost deceided HX40 for the Project, but What is HX40 'Super'
--I can find HX40 easy enough from old truck, or does it need to be 'special'....
7.5mm elements from Germany, Exhaust-system from Finland...
Now I need OM.606! --have a possible lead on a good turbot one, will let you know...
Need information on the Mountings for OM.606 into W123
Thanks again, and if you think of any more info I would love to hear more!

Re: Thats Great!
Do not take HX40 from old trucks, instead take a brand new HX40super which boost from lover rpm's and gives more on top rpm's. Typical price here in Finland is not more than around 750 €.
Here is a brief information what is Holset Super HX40:
http://www.turbotekniikka.fi/index.php? ... Itemid=148
Just copy paste the text into the google translator...or maybe there is also english texts in the web. Take care also to pick original Holset, not any copy product.
HX40s is Ok between 300-450 hp in diesel engines.

I was talking to a guy, 'Jeemu' who has 605 and 477BHP and another make turbot but I couldnt find any information on his turbot....Super-Power? I think it is...
At the moment I'm researching the project, It will be a while before I make it happen!
--I look for good 606 currently.
Unfortunately i do not have answer, but i think so. Several om606 engines are installed to w124 chassis, so i think by mixing w126 and w124/om603 mounting arm parts is the trick to go. I must also say that installing om606 to w123 is not any kind of plug and play work.Alastair kirjoitti:-But--Do the 603 arms fit 606?
I try to search more detailed instructions later when i have more time...
jeemu have had several different turbo charger combination, i don't remember exactly what there is in use today but masterpower chargers are also used.
All those three guys are gurus in this area, they do what they want. If there is not suitable parts available they makes those by hands

Hi veskola, I thank you for helping me with this info, and I look forward to any more you can find!
I thought I had found good 606, but the guy was idiot, not good engine and way too much money!
I know its lots of work and modification for 606 into W123, and I am planning at the moment, sourcing parts and finding what I need. It may take me a year to get everything and all the information--But that is fine, I'm not in a hurry!
Hopefully, I do it Once, but do it Right!
Thanks again.

An HX40 is far too big for an OM606. Even on engines twice the displacement its known to be a dog spooling up. It might be fine for the drag strip or race track where you're flogging the piss out of the engine, but on the street you'll have performance little better than that of a non-turbo engine.
The HX35 and HE341 are a far better match. Even if you push 30psi and 6500rpm out of your 606 it still won't be flowing as much air as the stock 5.9L Cummins engine the HX35/HY35/HE341 comes from.
The HX35 and HE341 are a far better match. Even if you push 30psi and 6500rpm out of your 606 it still won't be flowing as much air as the stock 5.9L Cummins engine the HX35/HY35/HE341 comes from.

Maybe HX50 is on the big side for a 5-cylinder, but HX40 too big for OM606? I don't think so. More likely it could be called as a perfect matchForced_Induction kirjoitti:An HX40 is far too big for an OM606. Even on engines twice the displacement its known to be a dog spooling up. I would agree--IF it were just Any Old HX40....
The ones available in Finland are specially set up for the job--Not sure whats different I'm no expert in Turbos, but the Co. KKD Motorsport offer a range of HX40 for Meserschmitt, (Mercedes) and others.

When will you get that not everybody can/wants to build a $12,000 race engine that performs slower than stock on the street? People want a usable engine, not just 4500-6000rpm of power. Whats the point of 529hp if a stock OM617 can beat it to the next stoplight?jeemu kirjoitti:When you got it at everybody dont build their cars low rpm engines?
None since they don't naturally revv that high. Can you tell how much originally om605 gives torgue at 4500, 5000, or 6000rpm?
A naturally aspirated 605 makes that much at 2800rpm!By the way, when i star build this engine, it has 170nm/3200rpm
My engine makes more torque (250nm) from idle to 3200rpm, without smoke!
What you need is a good HE351Ve to broaden that curve!

Have you got any 1/4 mile or 0-60 videos?

Still you dont have better results to show.
And what comes race at stoplights, i think my car beat yours even if you but both your iron engines of it. If you dont know we here in Finland have gears on cars originally.
By the way, new numbers are 550hp/707nm.

I am a moderator on a UK Forum and we Never get any trouble of that magnitude at all. The main reason for peace is a small thing called, TOLERANCE.....
